Oliver Twist is a novel by the English author Charles Dickens that tells the story of an orphan named Oliver Twist, who was born in a workhouse and subjected to severe mistreatment. The novel follows his escape from the harsh treatment of the workhouse and his arrival in London, where he falls victim to a gang of thieves led by an old criminal named Fagin. However, he eventually survives, is rescued by a kind-hearted man, and discovers the secrets of his family. The novel is considered a social critique of the poverty of the era, child labor, and injustice
